The Pinellas Clerk’s website was plagued with outdated content and lacked user-friendly features (i.e. search field, easy navigation, responsive design, visual simplicity, and functionality, etc.). Improving the site’s content and usability was vital to both internal and external customers, given that the Call Center was bombarded with inquiries regarding forms and processes on the website. As such, we strategized to replace the Clerk’s website with a modern online presence to give everyone a platform that facilitated doing business with our office.
Legislative budget cuts didn’t allow for large scale projects with hefty price tags. Being able to maintain and further update the final product without incurring additional costs or hardships was also key. As a result, I led a 10-person team to build a responsive website using in-house talent saving the office $20,000-$40,000 in addition to future maintenance costs. We chose DNN as the best web content management system to fit our needs. Affordability and customization were key components when deciding on the open-source platform. In the end, the new Clerk website reduced Call Center inquiries by 30% using information gathered from customer complaints and comments to fine-tune the website’s User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX).
